Bookbinding Classes
- Bookbinding I: Basic Repairs
- This 2 hour class covers bookbinding concepts. The Workshop portion covers:
- How to repair a torn page
- Put a loose page back in
- How to reinforce a loose cover
- Strengthen worn cover corners
- How to strengthen spine tops or replace a complete spine
- Class Handouts:
- Bookbinding II: Intermediate Repairs
- Prerequisite: Bookbinding I or equivalent
- This 4 hour workshop covers:
- Tightening the stitches - Checking for broken stitches, then tighten the existing stitches
- Re-attaching a signature - Checking that the rest of the signatures are secure, then re-attach the loose one
- Reattach cover - Re-discuss a technique from Bookbinding I and then work on a new method
- Inlaying the Cover - This technique makes your book look much nicer. The edges of the repair edges exactly meet the original materials, and sit at the same level
- Class Handouts:
- Bookbinding III: Make a Book
- Prerequisite: Bookbinding II or equivalent
- This 8 hour workshop covers:
- Creating pages, and signatures, and how to sew in the signatures
- Creating cover boards, attaching them to the cover material
- Creating a spine
- Attaching the signatures to the cover and spine
- Bookbinding IV: Oriental Bookbinding
- Prerequisite: Bookbinding III or equivalent
- This 4 hour workshop covers:
- Accordion books
- Predecessor to the European book
- Paper Books
- Removable signature books
