• Bookbinding I: Basic Repairs
  • This 2 hour class covers bookbinding concepts. The Workshop portion covers:
    • How to repair a torn page
    • Put a loose page back in
    • How to reinforce a loose cover
    • Strengthen worn cover corners
    • How to strengthen spine tops or replace a complete spine
  • Class Handouts:

• Bookbinding II: Intermediate Repairs
  • Prerequisite: Bookbinding I or equivalent
  • This 4 hour workshop covers:
    • Tightening the stitches - Checking for broken stitches, then tighten the existing stitches
    • Re-attaching a signature - Checking that the rest of the signatures are secure, then re-attach the loose one
    • Reattach cover - Re-discuss a technique from Bookbinding I and then work on a new method
    • Inlaying the Cover - This technique makes your book look much nicer. The edges of the repair edges exactly meet the original materials, and sit at the same level

• Bookbinding III: Make a Book
  • Prerequisite: Bookbinding II or equivalent
  • This 8 hour workshop covers:
    • Creating pages, and signatures, and how to sew in the signatures
    • Creating cover boards, attaching them to the cover material
    • Creating a spine
    • Attaching the signatures to the cover and spine

• Bookbinding IV: Oriental Bookbinding
  • Prerequisite: Bookbinding III or equivalent
  • This 4 hour workshop covers:
    • Accordion books
    • Predecessor to the European book
    • Paper Books
    • Removable signature books
